We had our Conference Candy, the M&M's in hand to get things started on the right foot.
Sometimes the kids would leave and entertain themselves. One time they came down-stairs dressed-up to look like the characters on this picture. It is blurry and hard to see, but they did a great job matching the picture!
Other times we each sat and confortably listened. There were moments of silent listening here and there, but mostly the kids played, and Thomas & I listened. Still, I know that we heard what we Needed to hear.... weather we had perfect silence in the house or not.
Kirtlyn even put on a dress for the Sunday sessions. When I asked her if she wanted to go and change, she said, "But mom, it's Sunday." And so it was! I love that valiant desire she has to make Sunday a little different, to make it sacred, to make it Holy!!
L Tom Perry talked about the Sabbath, during the Saturday morning 1st session. He talked about how we must prepare our children for the Sabbath, that they might be a standard for the nations. My testimony has grown on this matter, considering now that our world here is much bigger than we originally thought. The Lord needs us to be his helpers in establishing the standards and truths of His true Gospel, in order to better prepare his saints for their return to him. And each of us will do this, weather we feel worthy or prepared to do so or not. He knows us better than we know ourselves, and He knows the work we are able to do.
I loved the quote that Henry B. Eyring shared, at the end of the first session, from President Benson that said, " I love this work, and it is work!" It is work, but we are able to do it, through Him, and we will feel the joy of our labors!
Conference is a joy for us, it is not always pure reverence, but the spirit is invited here.
I pray for each of you and your specific needs, and I love you!!
We are children of God, and I am so grateful for that knoweldge in my life!

It is a miracle in our house if it is ever quiet. If it is there it T R O U B L E :) But during the first Sunday Session all 3 of our big kids sat still and listened. It was a miracle. I love conference and we love you!
ReplyDeleteSO glad that you got to have it quiet for the first session!
ReplyDeleteYour description of conference brought back memories of our full-house conferences. The important thing, to the kids, is not necessarily how well they listened, because they will hear every single thing again and again throughout their lives, but that they saw that it was important to you. Someday it will be important to them and they will remember how you gathered them around and had them try to listen. They will try with their kids and the righteous tradition will continue.
